I've read the stickies and such and I've followed the
directions, but I simply can't get my resident shield to
turn off. As soon as I press apply and okay, I try to
download and it still doesn't work. I went to check and
make sure I checked the right thing and it had rechecked
itself. I'm not sure how to get it to turn off for sure and
the help topics it comes with only says the following;

"Check the Turn on Resident Shield protection box to activate the Resident Shield. We strongly recommend not unchecking this box unless you have a serious reason!"

Also, I was wondering if AVG came with an allow function.
I can't find the function itself nor can I find a help topic
about it, so I just thought I'd ask.

Thanks in advance. F3

Try disabling AVG when you want to play? I don't have it, so I don't know if that'll work. xd Just a suggestion.

Well, all you should have to do is double-click the Resident Shield thing in the AVG main tray window and turn it off from there. I only had to do that once though (when running FMS for the first time), as AVG now seems content with leaving FMS alone, except when it scans, then it puts the .exe away in the virus vault.

This isn't too annoying as it's a 5-second process to get it back out. Where you really have an annoying AVG problem (at least for me), is when you play GMS. The stupid thing warns you every couple of minutes that "AVG has a problem with the Resident Shield", and minimizes Maple to tell you this.

I'm so glad I stopped playing GMS =p.

Here's some help. Uninstall AVG.
